# Seven things people believe about Instagram recovery, and what's actually true

**In one minute:** Four beliefs are wrong in a way that costs people: paid insiders, warnings by DM, overnight reviews and stand-in accounts after a ban. One is wrong in your favour: losing your email and phone isn't the end. And one rule never changes: real help works without your password or codes.

## 1. "A Meta insider can unban me for money"

Nobody sits outside Instagram's own reviews and appeals with a back door. Its scam guidance is blunt: reputable organisations don't demand immediate payment, and scammers like to impersonate familiar organisations, sometimes using an employee photo lifted from the web. ## 2. "Instagram will warn me by DM"

Account messages never come through Direct, by Instagram's own account. Genuine information lives in **Account Status**, the **Support Inbox** and **Recent emails**, which lists 14 days of real Instagram mail. ## 3. "Reviews come back within a day"

## 4. "More requests mean a faster answer"

Instagram has never claimed that duplicates jump the queue. What it does mention is prioritising certain appeals for human reviewers, a limited resource. One consistent request that responds to the stated reason, logged with its date, beats a dozen.

## 5. "A stand-in account is harmless"

The Terms of Use make using Instagram conditional on never having had an account disabled for legal or policy violations, and prohibit unauthorised account creation. Never. Hand over a password or code and a locked account becomes someone else's. Identity checks happen on your own phone, and honest helpers stick to official routes and say so when a case is hopeless.
